One of the most famous landmarks in the world, Christ the Redeemer is an absolute must-visit when in Rio de Janeiro. This impressive 30-meter-tall statue sits on top of Corcovado Mountain, which offers breathtaking views of the city, including Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana Beach, and more.
To get to Christ the Redeemer, you can take the iconic Corcovado Train (Trem do Corcovado), which takes about 20 minutes and costs around R$100. Another option is the official van service, which departs from designated locations around the city.
I visited the Christ the Redeemer on a holiday, and I have to be honest—it was overwhelming. The place was extremely crowded, and it was hard to even walk around the statue. Taking a photo with the Christ in the background? Forget about it. It felt nearly impossible to capture a moment with so many people trying to do the same.
Despite the crowds, the views from the top were absolutely stunning.
If you’re planning to visit, my advice is to go on a weekday and as early in the morning as possible. The later you go, the more packed it gets, and the exciting experience can quickly become stressful. Try to catch the first train or van of the day to avoid the crowds and truly appreciate this iconic site.
Even with the challenges, visiting Christ the Redeemer is something you must do if you visit Rio. Just plan wisely to make the most of the experience!
